Peter J. Morandi, the CEO of Eastman Cooke Construction, a New York City-based full-service general contracting and construction management firm, has recently joined the Board of Directors of ACDS, a Long Island-based organization that provides a wide range of programs and services to individuals with Down syndrome, autism, and other developmental disabilities.
“We are very fortunate to have Peter Morandi as our newest board member,” said ACDS Board President Gene Kirley. “Peter is a proven leader and successful businessman whose skills and enthusiasm will be extremely valuable to ACDS.”
Growing up, Morandi watched his father and grandfather build up a successful family construction business, and never doubted that this would be his life’s work. He studied construction management and engineering at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island, and moved to New York City shortly after graduation to begin his career. After ten years as a construction manager, director of operations, and chief operating office for a leading NYC contractor, Morandi started Eastman Cooke Construction in 2009.
Under his leadership, Eastman Cooke has grown to a $30 million company, providing ground-up construction and major renovations for a wide range of corporate, education, and retail clients. In addition, the firm does an increasing number of projects for healthcare/life science clients such as hospitals, medical offices, and labs, as well as not-for-profit clinics and assisted living residences.
Morandi believes that helping others in his profession and in the community ultimately helps his company. In addition to ACDS, Morandi and his firm support nonprofit organizations including City Harvest, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Unique People Services, Contractors for Kids, and Queens Centers for Progress, from whom Morandi received the 2016 Business Leadership Award.
“From a young age, I learned the importance of giving back to the community,” said Morandi. “I admire ACDS for their dedication to provide a lifetime of support, resources, and inclusion for those with developmental disabilities and their families. I am honored to join the ACDS board of directors and look forward to helping them make a difference in the lives of the individuals they serve.”
