April Intrabartola, Director of Brand Development for Eastman Cooke Construction, a New York City-based full-service general contracting and construction management firm, was recently named a 2016 New York Brava Award recipient by SmartCEO Magazine. The award ceremony will be held on July 27 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Hudson Mercantile in Manhattan’s Hudson Yards.
The Brava Award celebrates high-impact female business leaders who combine an entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for giving back, and are exemplary leaders of both their companies and their communities. Each year, an independent committee of local business leaders selects winners based on their ability to make a tangible contribution to the growth of their company and to the community through high-level leadership, philanthropy, and mentorship.
Ms. Intrabartola has been with Eastman Cooke since it’s founding in 2009. She has expanded her role from executive/administrative assistant to take on increasingly more responsibilities, first as Director of Administration & Finance, and now to a strategic leadership position as Director of Brand Development. Ms. Intrabartola plays an integral role in the strategic planning, corporate culture, sales, growth, internal operations, and client/ vendor relationships.
“I am honored to receive the Brava Award from SmartCEO Magazine, especially for an industry where women executives are such a minority,” said Intrabartola. “Hopefully, this award will set an example of what’s possible for women in construction, and encourage women to enter the field in the future.”
Intrabartola also acts as a mentor to new employees and to their growing staff who join the firm straight from college, with a lot of theoretical knowledge but little hands-on training. She believes in leading by example and that contributing to others will ultimately help the company and the people she serves. Intrabartola is on the board of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABS) and a member of the Professional Women in Construction (PWC).
In the community, Intrabartola donates both her time and money to charitable organizations including City Harvest, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Contractors for Kids, and the Hagedorn Little Village School. In 2002, her family started the Kathi Smillie Nursing Foundation in honor of her aunt who died of breast cancer. The Foundation raises money to fight breast cancer, offers a scholarship to students of the Molloy College Nursing Program, and provides financial assistance to women while they undergo breast cancer treatment.
“I have come to rely on April’s teamwork, company dedication, and willingness to take chances,” said Peter Morandi, founder and CEO of Eastman Cooke, a sponsor of the 2016 New York Brava Awards. “She is an invaluable resource for ensuring that our business operations are aligned with the company’s long-term vision and plan. Without April, we would not have the level of client and employee satisfaction that are critical to our success and continued growth.”
