Eastman Cooke is amidst the demolition phase on this full-building infrastructure upgrade and renovation project for a rapidly growing medical client. This 100+ year old, five-story storage building on Manhattan’s west side will be transformed into a state-of-the-art surgery center with suites available for other medical practices.
At this time, all new shaft openings for stairwells and elevators have been created, the basement slab has been removed, elevator pits excavated, penthouse demolished, foundation wall shoring installed, and all safety precautions have been implemented.
We have installed conveyor belts to expedite removals from the cellar, as well as material hoists in open shafts to facilitate the movement of materials between floors. The existing elevator is also in the process of being de-commissioned with the NYC DOB.
The first floor slab, which will need to be completely replaced, will be done in four phases, as this is a critical path element of demolition. To date, much of the internal structural steel has been installed and the new two-story mechanical penthouse is in the shop-drawing phase. As the interior of the building progresses, we are also restoring the building’s exterior façade, and expect this to be complete before winter. The building is scheduled to open at the end of 2017.
